Weightlifting Fairy Kim Bok-ju - ep3: Let it go

Joon-hyung is so good at being annoying, that you actually feel like knocking him out sometimes. But the great thing about him is that even though he gets carried away in his boisterousness, he's also quick to make amends, and will do so without being patronising.

I love the moment when Bok-ju loses her temper, and tells him to get lost, saying how they're not even close enough to be friends. And though it hurt to see his face drop, I feel it was important for him to hear that coz it's clear that they're on two very different wavelengths - whilst he's busy treating her like they're best chums from yesteryears, she's moved on in life and is too caught up in her own affairs to even notice Joon-hyung. Of course, it was most likely bad timing on Joon-hyung's part which made her snap, but the fact of the matter is, he's always a step ahead with regards to how he feels. So whilst nothing 's changed for him since their childhood, for Bok-ju, there's clearly a gap there whereby the two haven't yet established anything in common enough for them to be labelled as friends. You're gonna have to work hard to stay by her side, Joon-hyung!
I love the bit when he sees Bok-ju in a spot of trouble at the bar - he's clearly worried for her, but he tries ever so hard to feign ignorance (still miffed at how she spoke to him earlier during the hike). The men losers who are causing a ruckus get downright personal and derogatory in their remarks, making Joon-hyung flare up in anger. Though he reigns it in, the moment the girls leave, the grown ass men continue talking about them in a distasteful manner /shock (right, now you've had it - time to be the hero, Joon-hyung!!), causing Joon-hyung to come crashing down on them, fists flying an all. He's totally protecting Bok-ju's dignity here. Atta boy!

What I love about Joon-hyung is that he doesn't let ill feelings get in the way. Yes, he's miffed at Bok-ju, but protecting her still comes first. And the way he just grabs her hand and runs, shows how comfortable he is being her friend, and more.

Okay, so I must admit, I squealed a lot more the second time I watched this coz I was paying closer attention to the body language as opposed to just reading the subs. And it's always the smaller details which make the bigger impact, like the way he lets go of her hand to let it comfortably rest on his head that split second longer, or the way both were visibly affected by something so casual. Bok-ju's continuous blinking thereafter was a-dorable. And how about that tap Joon-hyung gave Bok-ju the moment she too banged her head against the counter, as if to reprimand her for her carelessness? Love how he just reverts back to their casual ways after sharing what was something of a "moment".

Their little heart-heart (sorta) afterwards was great too. I mean they don't really say much, but you can see how much closer they become as a result in that both their previous woes lay forgotten. I love the natural flow of their conversations too - it reveals so much of their personalities. Joon-hyung's playful attitude takes a backseat as he sincerely asks about her worries, offering some "oppa" advice while he's at it, and she gruffly fake fists his face whilst telling to him to shift his high horse - love it! The attraction is definitely there though, and you can sense it, wholly from Joon-hyung's end. The scene ends with Bok-ju standing there taking in the night view in front of them, while he takes in the view besides him, stealing long glances at Bok-ju's adorable face. Cute!

Later on in the ep, we hear some of Bok-ju's inner thoughts, and they definitely seem to reflect the advice given to her by Joon-hyung bout time being a healer of problems, which I thought was a nice touch. It just goes to show that though Joon-hyung may be a kid at heart, he's also thoughtful in nature, showcasing him to be maturer than most his age.

Definitely a sweet ep - the feels just keep coming!
