Okay, that was friggin hilarious. *replays a zillion times*. Especially with the "WHAAAT" playing in the background - always has me cackling like craaaaazy!! =))
She charges at him in rage whilst he quickly legs it - ruuuuuuun Joon-hyung, ruuuuuuuun for your liiife!! Ok, but you totally deserve her wrath.
The next scene is SUPER sweet! Joon-hyung offers to dry her hair while she stands there wearing an angry pout. Whilst drying her hair and making a tussling mess of it in the process, Joon-hyung feels the closeness between them with her pretty face only inches away from his. It's a great moment because you can see the flustered look on Joon-hyung's face, which stays there for a good while, even after he throws the drier over her head and jumps away from her quickly. I love that you can visibly see him trying to calm down his erratically beating heart. Oooh from the look on his face, tis thumping wildly!! Admit it Joon-hyung, you got it bad!!
The way she opens up about her crush, and how she doesn't feel good enough for someone like Jae-yi (or anyone for that matter) due to her callus hands gives us a good insight into Bok-ju's insecurities as a woman. And it was super sweet of Joon-hyung to brush those insecurities away with a few words of encouragement, saying how such things don't matter, and how he would love it (her hands), labelling them as "sporting medals".
What's great about their little heart to heart isn't just about his re-assuring her that she's still attractive as a woman, but the fact that he's finding common ground between them as sporting athletes, and the qualities which come with it be it mental or physical, is what makes Bok-ju, Bok-ju. He's embraced her for who she is, and the way she is, without expecting more. And that sort of compliment would make anyone die of happiness!
What a great turnaround! The amount of times dramas have made me cringe or die of second hand embarrassment when the girl ends up shutting her eyes and puckers up to the hero's delight is just too many to count. But no, not this drama, no siree! I love how this drama messes around with traditional tropes! It's so Tangled, but with added weightlifting spunk!
Sigh, not that Bok-ju would notice such a good thing when she sees it. But seriously, how great is bold joon-hyung, who pretty much pours his heart out every chance he gets. After sneezing so nonchalantly in his face, teasing that her
I mean any other male friend would typically retort back saying "you're dead meat" or would simply move away in disgust, but for Joon-hyung, it's clear what's playing on his mind, and he was so ready for it too!! Ah, see what I mean bout the two not quite being on the same page yet. *sigh* guess you're just going to have to wait your turn, Joon-hyung!
Turns out that he does end up catching that cold from Bok-ju, and it couldn't be worse timing coz he's got a swimming competition coming up - eek! In the next moment, he runs into Bok-ju (complaining bout the cold he's caught), who opens up to him about being moved up in weight class. This was another great moment because it just goes to show how well Joon-hyung knows Bok-ju by telling her exactly what she needs to hear, even though she doesn't quite see it that way.
Joon-hyung has this knack for saying things as they are, and it can sometimes prove frustrating (for someone like Bok-ju) coz you know he's right, but it still doesn't quite appease you in the way that you want to be appeased. Naturally, his "you gotta do what you gotta do" knowing that Bok-ju's purpose for attending the weight clinic isn't actually to lose weight, makes her lose her temper. She blasts out a loada steam by accusing Joon-hyung of not knowing how the world works, and how he's got it easy, both professionally and in terms of family background - oh honey, you have no idea. He's hurt by her words, and rightly so. You make it up to him, Bok-ju!
The moment Bok-ju stops to make a wish (for Joon-hyung) at the wishing fountain after finding out about Joon-hyung's professional problem from Jae-yi was awesome, and a sweet way to makeup for how she hurt him earlier. What I like about this moment is how regretful she feels for what she rashly said, and how she genuinely wishes to make up for it.
And how much do I love that she chooses the very things Joon-hyung advises her not to do unless she's close with a guy. The first thing she does, when she gets home, is look up the results for the swimming competition. She then proceeds to text Joon-hyung some words of comfort after seeing that he didn't do so well (which she gives up on in the end due to feeling awkward). She finally gets a light-bulb moment and takes out some craft paper - she's going to make him a handmade gift!! Ah, the girl is totally sparing a thought for Joon-hyung - about time missy!!
I love how one call from Bok-ju makes Joon-hyung light up like a Christmas tree, and it looks like Christmas came early for Joon-hyung coz she asks to meet up. She gruffly hands him her handmade gift, and whad'ya know, it's an origami toad - with googly eyes an everything!! Ok, that's friggin adorable!! It holds extra special meaning because of the toad story Joon-hyung related to Bok-ju previously. And it's cute to think that by gifting him the toad, she wishes Joon-hyung to do well in whatever he does.
Bok-ju casually says that it's nothing special and that she made it coz she was bored - liar liar, pants on fire!! Heh, but Joon-hyung totally sees through her facade after seeing how many times she folded and re-folded the thing - and I love that he notices this . It's lovely to think how much time and effort she spent making it (coz trust me, origami ain't easy!), and how all that time was spent thinking about Joon-hyung. And far from being burdened by it (as he advised in ep4), something tells me Joon-hyung is going to snuggle up to it in bed and read it bed time stories, coz his face looks like he's up on cloud nine!
I absolutely love this final moment. Not only is it prettily shot, but it also made my heart skip several beats! The moment Bok-ju takes Joon-hyung uphill to see her neighbourhood. It's a beautiful view, and the two standing there caught in their own moment is equally beautiful. Bok-ju's ticked off a lot of boxes for Joon-hyung, enough to bring him out of his professional funk that he'd still be in had she not spent effort cheering him up. So it's not wonder when she asks whether her neighbourhood is pretty, he replies in the affirmative: "hmm it's pretty", except his eyes aren't fixated on the view when he says it...it's fixated on her. And only her. /blush
I love that she uses this opportunity to learn more about Joon-hyung because previously, it'd always been one sided on his part. Though he doesn't give too much away, I believe this is the most he's opened up to Bok-ju about his own problems, and I think her making the first step makes all the difference. I like that he doesn't close himself off, but answers her questions as honestly as he can. And it's great to see how well they connect to each other on a professional level as well as being good friends as it allows her to understand him better and to bolster his confidence during moments when he's down.
My heart skipped a few more times when Joon-hyung, clearly overwhelmed by Bok-ju's show of kindness and support, uses the moment to openly flirt with her, which as always, goes over her head. I love how he's able to flirt with her with such serious affection - those loving gazes are no joke!
Yep, my heart definitely skipped a beat this episode, and more!
